‘DOLE KEMP Restoring the American Dream’
In 1992, candidate Bill Clinton promised voters that he would balance the budget, cut taxes on the middle-class, and raise wages for American workers. Since Clinton took office, he has broken every one of those promises.
Slow Growth and Stagnant Wages
In the past three-and-a-half years, Clinton passed the largest tax increase in history, blocked a Balanced Budget Amendment, and vetoed two balanced budgets. He presided over the weakest "recovery" in the past 100 years while the real wages of American workers remained completely stagnant -- only increasing one penny per hour in his first three years.
As wages have fallen, taxes have gone up and up and up. Thanks to Clinton's record-breaking tax increase, American families are now forced to give more of their hard-earned money to the tax man than ever before in history -- 31.3% of GDP. The typical American family now pays more in taxes than for food, clothing and shelter combined.
In August, Bob Dole and Jack Kemp introduced a forward looking, pro-growth plan to cut taxes, raise wages, and reenergize our economy. The central elements of the Dole/Kemp plan are a balanced budget and real tax cuts -- including a 15% across-the-board cut and a $500-per-child tax credit.
The Dole / Kemp Plan for Economic Growth
Balance the Budget
There is no person in America who has more credibility than Bob Dole when it comes to balancing the budget. Dole spent most of his distinguished congressional career fighting for fiscal responsibility and a balanced budget.
The foundation of the Dole/Kemp economic plan is a balanced budget and a Balanced Budget Amendment. That's why the Dole/Kemp plan clearly lays out how a Dole administration will cut taxes and balance the budget by the year 2002.
Cut Taxes with a 15% Across-the-Board Tax Cut and $500-Per-Child Tax Credit These two tax cuts are the centerpiece of the Dole/Kemp tax cut plan. The 15% tax cut is simple, fair, and will apply to every American, regardless of income. The $500-per-child tax credit will help more than 24 million working households.
CLINTON OPPOSED TO REAL TAX CUTS AND A BALANCED BUDGET
Bill Clinton said he is "unalterably opposed" to our plan to allow working Americans keep more of their own money. He said we "can't afford" a plan designed to balance the budget and give families the tax relief that he promised four years ago. He has likened our tax relief plan to giving candy to children. He's wrong.
WHAT IT MEANS TO YOU
Under the Dole/Kemp plan, the average American family will get back more than $1,600 to spend, invest or save each year.
A married couple with two children earning $30,000 will save about $1,272.
A married couple with two children earning $50,000 will save about $1,657.
A married couple with no children earning $50,000 will save about $779.
A retired couple with no children earning $60,000 will save about $1,727.
A single taxpayer with no children earning $30,000 will save about $519.
‘Bob Dole: A Vision for America’
Biography of Senator Bob Dole
Bob Dole was born and raised in the small farming town of Russell, Kansas, during the height of the Great Depression. It was here Dole developed his lifelong conservative ideals. Overcoming poverty and hardship, Dole worked his way through college until he enlisted in the U.S. Army in the Second World War. As the platoon leader of the 10th Mountain Division in Italy, he was twice wounded and twice decorated for "heroic achievement," receiving two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star with Oak leaf cluster.
After suffering a devastating injury that left his right arm permanently paralyzed, Bob Dole returned home to fight his way back to strength and work his way through law school, then the Kansas State Legislature, the County Attorney's Office, and then on to Washington as a member of the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, where he currently serves as Senate Majority Leader.
As one who witnessed the greatness of America firsthand, Bob Dole wants to lead America to an even brighter future -- by reining in the federal government, reconnecting government to our most basic values, and reasserting America's interest and influence abroad.
